I was absolutely gobsmacked to win ‘Dawn Milk Best Dressed Gent’ at this years Killarney Races.
We have been travelling to Killarney for the last nine years, either for weekends away or day trips because for us it is one of the most picturesque places in Ireland.
However, even though I am a keen racing fan, I had never actually gone to the races there! Well, this year we decided we would finally go and it was a day to remember.
Killarney Racecourse is Ireland’s most scenic racecourse and arguably the most spectacular racecourse in the world. It is situated within walking distance of Killarney town center and has a panoramic view of Killarney National Park, Ross Castle, The Lakes of Killarney and the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks. I implore anyone, racing fan or not to add it to their travel bucket list.
We travelled down on July 18th for “Ladies Day” and the place was buzzing with activity; the sun was out and the track was packed with punters and some unique styles were on show all adding to the carnival atmosphere.
To be honest, I hadn’t taken much interest in the Best Dressed competition, truth be told I only thought there was a competition for the ladies so when judge and rugby star Ben Foden approached me and asked me to be a finalist I initially thought he was having me on!
Laura also made the final for Best Dressed Lady but that honour went to Kerry native Fiona McSweeney from Kilcummin who stunned in red.
We had a great night in Killarney and after being pampered up in the VIP area of the track, it was oof to the the after party was held at the Brehan Hotel. It was hosted by Dancing With The Stars duo Jake Carter and Karen Byrne and Laura came away with Best Hat for the day to “cap” off a memorable day.
